Good memories from two weeks at IHF Medan

By XU Mingchen, Voluntourist at IHF Medan center

On the afternoon of July 1st, a team driven by love was put together. This team included six energetic volunteers together with a lovely director, Louise, making up a warm family. Our first week’s volunteer job started from July 2nd. Our goal is to teach local children in Medan any useful knowledge we may have, especially English. We feel a sense of responsibility in our hearts – this is no doubt very meaningful for us. Although we were a little bit nervous at first, we always help with each other to conquer difficulties. Through teaching, I’m feeling very happy and mentally satisfied. After class, we play games with children, full of fun. What’s even more fun is that we volunteers travelled into the Jungle to see more of Medan. There, we saw some interesting animals, such as baboons and monkeys. In one word: we are enjoying every minute of our time in Medan.BAL3In our second week, we continued to teach children English. Most of our students have enthusiasm to learn. They listen during the classes very carefully and desire to ask questions after classes. After class, the children are active and we volunteers are like good playmates. On Friday, when the students are on holiday, we six volunteers went to Lake Toba to go sightseeing. The lake was so scenic, it attracted us very much. We swam, rode bikes and played football there. People were really hospitable. On Saturday, they showed their local dance to us, making us happy and and giving us amazing memories. It’s time to say goodbye to Medan. We will never forget our time here which has bought us a lot of happiness. If I have the chance, I will come again surely. Hoping to see you again, IHF Medan center.
