Our New Year’s Eve started with the grade 5  girls’ final rehearsal at the center before the big night at one of the elegant hotels in Candidasa, a  village near to our IHF center in Buitan. The hotel offered us and  our Grade 5 girls the opportunity to be part of their New Year’s Eve entertainment program. The girls  were practicing their traditional Balinese dance for almost 3 months, supervised and getting directions from Ayu and Indri, 2 girls from the Junior Class (Ayu is also our child of the month, partly because of how instrumental she proved in making this night a success!).

The girls first began to get a bit nervous once they saw the space and the audience at Rama Candidasa during their dry rehearsal one week before!

They worked really hard,  and in the end,  all of their efforts were well worth it. I didn`t see them while they were getting ready with the costumes or make up, because I was waiting for them already in the hotel. But when they arrived, I was mesmerized by how beautifully and professionally they were made up.Grade 5 Girls

They were also behaving differently, older and composed, somehow:  smiling to the guests, watching their posture and allowing photos of/with them. I was so proud of them.

Even though they may have been, none of them appeared nervous about the dance. I personally don’t know how they managed to control their emotions so well, but they did a superb job.1538916_10151946945038922_331825326_n

All  of us were grateful to have been part of this magical, traditional and even emotional experience in Bali. Thank you, girls!
