Last week, I took a day trip to Hell’s Gate with some friends. Located about an hour outside of Nakuru, Hell’s Gate is where Walt Disney drew his inspiration for the Lion King. We arrived around 10 am and started a very slow drive around the park.
After gazing at the beautiful geological formations, we were stopped by a herd of wild boars. As we watched them play in the road and around the car, a few zebras decided that they wanted a piece of the action. We watched the animals for a bit and then we continued our drive through the park. We saw some giraffes, servile cats and lots of monkeys. Afterwards, we made our way to the campsite and cooked some food, hiked a little, and did a bit of rock climbing.
After playing at the campsite, we decided to go down to the gorge and do some more hiking. We trekked around the labyrinth for a few hours and did a bit more climbing as well. It was a perfect day, the weather was great and the scenery was spectacular. This was my first day trip to the surrounding area, and it was nice to get out and play in the wilderness.
